The impetus of SlutWalk Toronto is partially credited to the thoughtless remarks of a police officer on January 24, 2011: “women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized.”

Nearly 9 months later, the governor of Jakarta similarly stated “Wear sensible clothes, don’t wear ‘inviting’ clothes” to avoid being sexually assaulted after a woman was raped by a taxi driver and three other men. The governor’s remarks highlight the importance of following social media 🙂 He soon learned about SlutWalk.

The rape victim in the Indonesian case tracked down the rapist herself and had him arrested. He confessed and identified the three other men.
